New Shyamalan Movie Out in a Month
Hey remember that movie that they kept shutting down Rittenhouse for? And remember how Marky Mark wore his Red Sox hat when he ate at Smith and Wollensky's? Well, that movie is coming out soon, and it looks pretty damn interesting. I didn't really mind Signs or The Village like a lot of people did, but when he did a movie about mermaids I thought he had officially jumped the shark, and I wondered if his next movie would be about unicorns and warlocks. But hopefully he gets back on track here. Whattya think? After checking the trailers (here's another one), do you think it's gonna be good?

It has "good" potential. I like both Wahlberg and Deschanel so I'll definitely check it out.
The only film of M. Night's that I really didn't like was Unbreakable. Lady in the Water worked for me. I felt like I was watching a bedtime story, which it is, so I let myself watch it as such. I also thought it was a cool window into the creative writing process. Her being named "Story" was a bit much, but I liked how it brought me back to some thoughts I've had about where stories go if the writer doesn't write... Do they die? Do they find another writer? Disappear into the ether? An interesting take on the consequences of writer's block. Not sure if any of that was his intent, but that's how it impacted me.
Mermaids?
The fact that you did not "mind Signs" like the rest of us did really disturbs me. This is a movie which features aliens intelligent enough to crack the secrets behind inter-gallactic travel and actually make it to our planet. The thing is that water is evidently poison to them (if I am remembering the amazingly well thought out plot correctly)and as luck would have it, 70% of our planet is made up of this substance. Rough break. Oh, and by the way, in the end, we are led to believe this was all just part of God's plan. Beautiful. Whereas an experience seem to shake many Christian beliefs, Mel Gibson (who you may remember from such drunken rants as "take your hands off my you filthy Jew") now finds his faith. Stupidest movie ever, although I have heard Lady in the Water was even worse. His parts in his movies also seem to be growing larger. JGT, I will NEVER let you forget that you defended signs on the internet.
Ok, so the end of Signs was absolutely embarrasingly bad. But leading up to that, I thought it was a pretty scary movie. However, I will concede that the ending, particularly with the kid coming back to life because of God, was horrendous.
I appreiate that concession. And I will stipulate that I actually enjoyed the first 3/4 of the movie, only to be utterly disgusted by the way it ultimately played out. M. Night Shamalan is still riding on the laurels of the 6th sense; he has gotten progressively worse each time out. He kind of reminds me of Rick Ankiel (as a pitcher) or Mark Wohlers. You know they have good stuff; you've seen it before. They're just trying too hard at this point.
Wow - I can safely assume this is the first movie post on a trivia site to reference Mark Wohlers in a little while.
When is Unbreakable 2 coming out? It was perfect for a sequel and since the other films are kind of disjointed perhaps he could take his style to the superhero flick world for a bit. He is good at that. Otherwise he may be like Jose Mesa - "man, I remember when he didn't suck. Why are we paying to watch this?".
Without taking sides on the quality of M Night's work of late, I am proud to announce my acting premier in The Happening. I was on the set for one day as an extra during their filming in Rittenhouse. Even better, my scene appears on the second trailer (that shows before Iron Man, great movie).
It may not impress the likes of JGT: PhiLuminary, but I was pretty pumped to be Bike Messenger #1. Keep your eyes peeled for me!
