Well, gang, it's just about time to start waiting till next year. Only the Phillies can blow a 3 run lead in the 7th and not have that be the bad news. Yep, Chase Utley's hand is broken, though the Phillies say it's not that bad. Not bad. Kind of like Freddie Garcia's arm, Brett Myers arm, Flash Gordon's arm, etc, etc, etc. He's done for at least a month. Our #2 starter has an ERA of almost 6, and if you asked our bullpen to prevent Lindsay Lohan from joining a convent, they would probably blow it. At this point, you trade Rowand for some decent young arms that you can season for next year; you trade Barajas for a Slim Jim and a bottle of Banker's Club Gin; and you hire out our entire bullpen to dress up as clowns for kid's parties. Anybody else got any ideas or wanna commiserate?

Greg Dobbs starts every game at third as Nunez goes at 2nd. Chase is only down three weeks and the Phillies will make the playoffs...I have no idea who they get at the trade dealine (4:00 Tuesday), but Rowand stays as a result of this injury, and Bourn and Ruiz are gone for whatever pitcher they can get. And that dickbag that hit Chase gets one in the head his next AB against the Phil's

Johnny Goodtimes is flagged from all Phillies games until they clinch a play-off spot. Whenever he goes bad things happen.
Since the trade-deadline is Tuesday we'll find out real soon what Gillick's position is.
The Phillies offense is one of the best (if not the best) in their History. They knew going in their Bullpen was a problem. Maybe Jason Stark can add a chapter to his book. "Most Overrated General Manager Of All Time"

Geez, JGT, jumping quickly to conclusions again I see. You need to understand how long suffering Phils fans are. The season is far from over. In fact, this could shake things up a bit and then when our future Hall of Famer returns they will be better than ever.

Here's what I hope happens. Nunez bats second.

Victorino
Nunez
Rollins
Howard
Burrell
Rowand
A catcher
Someone else(paging Mr. Helms)
A pitcher

I am worried that they will put Rowand in the second position. Bad idea!

Go Phils!!!!

If it's good enough for Bankers to drink in their club - we probably won't get more than half a bottle in a Barajas trade.

Rowand will probably hit 3rd.

Chill Rob,

Have you lost your mind? Why in the world do you move Rowand to 6th and have Burrel protect Howard? That makes absolutely no sense. Rowand has done an amazing job of protecting howard and with pat the bat 5th, howard will be intentionally walked every at bat. Darth Ern, when Stark was on WIP, I actually asked him if Gillick was overrated. He said no.

Maybe he's changed his mind since then.
I'm not throwing in the towel but that Bullpen is awful!

JGT immigrated to the right sports town; don't be so damn hysterical. The reality is that the Phillies have been a few pitchers away from the playoffs all season. I can agree that the season is over with respect to the playoffs (in all likeliness) but that was the case even before Utley got hurt. Yes, they've been playing well lately. Yes, the bullpen blew it yesterday. But there's two realities of sports that Philly fans never grasp: one, you cannot win every game (e.g. the ire after a 6 game winning streak ended) and two, the other team is also trying to win the game.
If you put the Rollins-inspired, mildly-unrealistic expectations going into the season aside, I think you'd realize the Phillies are probably right about where they should be at this point given the entire roster. The offense is awesome and Utley is the leader but they're not a playoff team with the pitching staff they have. Doesn't mean it can't be an exciting season where there's an outside but realistic chance of making the playoffs.
How do you become homicidally angry about an injury? That's sports, guys get injured all the time but it's a 162 game season and there are still 60 games left. If the Phils can go .500 while Utley's out then perhaps they can step it up a notch and contend for a playoff spot once he returns. After all, that's probably where they should have been expected to be.

Posting pre-coffee leads to mistakes. Plus, your season's over thing increased my heart rate. Sorry, Pat the Bat and Rowand were switched. I would keep Rowand fifth.

The season is not over in the least, JGT. Did your Ol' Virginia give up after Gettysburg? No. They did not.

Good point Rob. In other Phillies news, yeserday I heard my first E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles! chant at a Philly game this season. It came after our bullpen blew it, which is fine, but they did it while Rowand was batting, which was lame. However, the thought of a huge EAGLES chant going up every time one of our relievers enters the game really doesn't bother me. Though I'd rather hear a G-I-L-L-I-C-K Gillick! chant any time a reliever enters the game.

Do the organizers of competitive bicycle racing really have to put us through another Tour de France? I mean, this thing has become so ridiculous with the doping scandals that we can't even clean up last year's mess before another one develops in the current Tour. And this happens every single year.
One proposal for these morons: acknowledge your sport is racked with doping and that it will never change or fold the event all together. It has become the most laughable entity in all of sports.

PalestraJon said:

The fact is, that among all sports, bicycle racing requires no special skills, just outrageous endurance. Thus, the slightest edge wins. Since the rewards for winning are so high, everyone will try and dope for if you don't dope, you have no chance to win unless they can ensure that no one dopes. They can't do that, so you have to assume that everyone dopes....those they catch and those they don't. They either have to end it or give up and may the best dope win.

I vote for give it up.

Phils get Iguchi from white sox at 2nd for a minor league pitcher who according to beerleaguer wasn't much of a prospect. looks like a pretty good move.

I have to mention this again because I just read that Coste could be sent down to make room once Jason Werth returns: is the managerial clinging to Rod Barajas over Chris Coste not the most mind-boogling personnel decision in sports? .207 vs. .333? No defensive acumen versus a veteran who stands to provide great leadership for young pitchers?
There must be something beneath the surface here, like Coste has banged Gillick and Manuel's wives, daughters and sisters. Short of that, this scenario befuddles me beyond belief.
