Kildare's hosts Philly's Best Quizzo!

A major smack talking storm was started last year when Philly Style Magazine (you can find a picture of them right next to the word "irrelevance" in the dictionary) picked Fado as Best Quizzo in Philadelphia.
So you can imagine the joy I felt when I came across Dan Gross's column today and saw who Philly Style Mag named Best Quizzo this year: Kildare's. I am not kidding. The bar that is to Irish pubs as Applebee's is to fine dining apparently now hosts the best quizzo in Philadelphia. But be forewarned: you're not allowed in the door without popping your collar. (Please note that while I am dogging on Kildare's and Philly Style, I am not dogging on the actual Kildare's quizzo. I have never played it, nor met anyone who has played it, so it might be good. In fact, it gets a great review from myquizzo.com. But it's in King of Prussia, which last I checked wasn't Philly. And let's face it, I'm not writing this because I am really pissed, but because I love dogging on things like Kildare's and Philly Style Magazine. If Dark Horse John or Pat Hines or Quizmaster Chris had won, I would be offering a hearty congrats, but two faux Irish bars winning it back to back kind of shows you how well PSM and it's readers "get it".) I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that Starbucks is gonna get best coffee in Philly, just like it did last year. Because after all, nothing says Philly like Starbucks. And nothing says Philly like a faux Irish pub in King of Prussia.
RELATED: Philly Mag isn't a big fan of Philly Style Mag's "Best Of" either.
P.S. I hope none of my Little Leaguers reads this, coming as it does less than a week after I gave them a big speech on "good sportsmanship". Remember kids, do as I say, not as I do.

Thanks for the hypothetical lukewarm congrats
Returning from the ether to comment:
Reading the story in the Illadelph, I couldn't help but notice this quote from the EIC of Philadelphia Magazine:
“The most frequent question I get from readers concerns how we decide upon Best of Philly entries, since, unlike our imitators, ours is not a readers’ poll — it’s a subjective, authoritative list."
Something can't be both subjective and authoritative, dickbag. That;s kind of WHAT THOSE WORDS MEAN. They are antonyms. The English language - learn it. Love it.
And, frankly, I find it exceedingly hard to believe that anyone cares that much about the methodology of the Best of Philly Awards.
It wasn't the Molly Maguires that cost you. It was having QUIZZO within the City limits. It's obvious "Philly Style Magazine" should be titled "Philly Suburb Magazine". Kildare!!!That's the guy Richard Chamberlain played on T.V.
On a side note, I'm guessing my repeated, profanity-laced insulting of my players is what cost me the contest. Then again, fuck those guys if they don't like it.
JLK
Hey, who do you think reads Philly Style? Popped collar douchebags from the suburbs who think places like Kildare's are great. Let those choads have their douchey-ass award and maybe they'll stay away from us; keep the animals in the zoo.
Hey Johnny -
I'd have voted for you (I mean, duh, I'm checking in to your website...). You rescued MAGMA from some serious quiz doldrums; fun, fair, you research the answers and we always learn something. As others have said, consider the source via the diss. I am disappointed in the local media that they clearly don't consult people who are into trivia on these things...
I'd have been p.o.'ed if they gave it to me & I were you though; a person should at least do it for a whole year first!
It's called Philly Style for a reason- it's about things that are kind of related to Philly but located elsewhere, like in KOP, or crap things that can be found anywhere, like Fado. It's like going to Orlando and getting a Philly Style cheesesteak. This made more sense in my head.
I would like to congratulate Tir Na Nog on winning the 2008 Philly Style Best Quizzo Award.
Members of Philly Hardcore aka "The Loudest Boo-ers of the Young, Old, and the Restless" have played the Kildare's quizzo at the Headhouse Sq location. It wasn't too bad, but they got nothin on ya Johnny. JGT = Philadelphia Quizzo, everyone knows that.
PS: We'll be back in action (and back in 2nd/3rd place) next Tues.
JGT is where other hosts go to play. That's the greatest tribute ever.
Aw....
For some reason that rag was in my mailbox today and Kildare's is all over it. They also won best bartender (Headhouse Square) and I thnk some other 'best ofs'. I'd go look but I'm out of dog poo bags and I needed to clean up a pile of turds in my courtyard. Who votes for this crap?
Once again Johnny, your a great guy but you need to give props where props are due. Now, Kildares winning all those awards and having multiple full page ads in the issue is a little shady, but until proven guilty of shadiness they win fair and square. I also don't find it fair that a guy who is not from Philly himself has the balls to call out other things for not being "Philly"! If your here and staying then you are Philly! And sorry for the jab, but I remember when peopel were calling foul when a guy...we'll call him J. Goodtimes....won Philly Magazine Best of Philly after writing a letter to the editor.
Johnny keep up the good work but let those who steal a little of your "glory" have their time in the spotlight and enjoy it.
